For breakfast, in offices, on car trips or just in between – coffee is consumed daily by many people in Germany. If the coffee was to be harmful to health for a long time, more and more studies have come to the conclusion that not only are 1-3 cups of coffee a day not harmful to health, but that they even have a number of health benefits.
In fact, scientists from Imperial College London in a more than 16-year study showed that coffee drinkers live longer. This was the case across all countries included in the study. The results are based on the evaluation of health data of more than half a million people from ten European countries. It was evaluated according to coffee drinkers and non-coffee drinkers. In order to be able to look at the health effects of coffee more isolated, the researchers calculated many other influences such as nutrition or smoking. Even one cup coffee feels perfect there.
The Suggestion of the Data
The data suggest that people who consume more coffee have a longer life. This is particularly true for cardiovascular diseases and diseases that affect the digestive tract. For women with very high coffee consumption (more than 580 milliliters per day in Germany), life expectancy was 7 per cent and for men even 12 per cent better than non-coffee drinkers.
- But what is it in coffee that promotes good health? There are several factors. Starting with the bitter taste. Coffee is the only bitter-tasting food primarily in addition to grapefruit and chicory, which is common in our society and regularly consumed. The bitter substances contained in the coffee promote the production of gastric and bile acid and thus the digestion. As a result, fat contained in the diet is better tolerated, which in turn relieves the liver.
- By the way, caffeine-induced adrenaline and norepinephrine, which increase the neurotransmitter acetylcholine and stimulate bowel movement, are the reason behind the urge to drink some coffee.
- The coffee also contains antioxidants that protect the DNA of human cells. In part, the concentration of antioxidants in 600 milliliters of coffee is 4-5 times as high as in the comparable amount of fruits and vegetables. Of course, this does not mean that you should not eat fruit or vegetables anymore, because, after all, vitamins and fiber are also very important.
- Yes, coffee can make you dependent and increase your blood pressure. However, the dose makes the poison. What can be harmful in large quantities is sometimes vital in small quantities, such as water.
As with everything, quality also plays a role. Optimal is organic coffee, prepared with a press or a sieve carrier machine. Coffee machines tend to form and house mold pores. Drink coffee at or after eating, not to prevent too rapid cortisol increase. To get a good night’s sleep, most people should consume the last cup of coffee of the day before 4 pm, as caffeine has a relatively long half-life. If you need coffee to work, you do not need coffee, but sleep! As long as you are not addicted to coffee and use it to compensate for lack of sleep, as already mentioned, 2 cups per day are even beneficial for your health.
According to research, coffee drinkers are far less likely to suffer from liver disease than people who did not drink coffee. Three or more than cups of coffee decreased the danger of succession of liver destruction daily by 53 percent in those who use to be already liver-damaged.
